Oakland County Businesses Remaining Open Under Executive Order 2020-42 Must Require Facial Coverings in Addition to Employee Screenings and Social Distancing Practices

On Monday, April 13, 2020, Oakland County announced that businesses and operations remaining open under the Governor’s Executive Order 2020-42 must take additional precautions to protect employees, effective Tuesday, April 14, 2020, at 12:01am. 

In addition to the symptom check screening programs already in effect under Oakland County Emergency Order 2020-05 (seen here), Oakland County’s newest order requires that all essential service personnel providing goods and services and which have face-to-face interaction with the public or close contact with goods wear facial coverings, as approved under CDC guidance.

These essential services include, but are not limited to, grocery stores, restaurants, pharmacies, and locations where social distancing measures are not possible. The order also makes clear that it does not change or alter any of the social distancing requirements imposed by any other Emergency Order.

Facial coverings may be either store bought or homemade, subject to the CDC guidance regarding homemade masks, which can be found here. The order strictly prohibits the use of N95 masks for this purpose, as those supplies are critical for healthcare and other emergency personnel.

Businesses identified by this list are required to comply by April 27, 2020. This order remains in effect until the expiration of Emergency Order 2020-42.

Businesses are also required to post a copy of Emergency Order 2020-07, found here, at the entrance of the facility and to members of the public at large by all reasonable means available.
