Butzel Long attorney Bernard J. Fuhs named to Brooks’ Elite 40 Under 40 Class of 2013

DETROIT, Mich. – Butzel Long attorney Bernard (Bernie) J. Fuhs has been named to Brooks’ Elite 40 Under 40 Class of 2013. The Class includes young thought leaders and trailblazers who live or work in Oakland County and are under the age of 40. The Elite 40 program is dedicated to helping these individuals make connections that can impact the future of Oakland County. L. Brooks Patterson introduced the Brooks’ Elite 40 Under 40 Class during the 2013 State of the County Address on February 7, 2013.

Just 31 years old, Mr. Fuhs, a Novi resident, is an engaged listener and proven problem solver, leader and entrepreneur. Based in Butzel Long’s Detroit office, Mr. Fuhs concentrates his practice in the areas of business and commercial litigation with significant experience in non-compete, non-disclosure, and trade secret disputes, business and financial services industry disputes, franchise and dealerships, transportation and logistics industry disputes, construction, real estate, securities, and sales representative matters.
Mr. Fuhs has successfully litigated and counseled clients on non-compete and trade secret matters in all 50 states. He is a frequent speaker on non-compete and trade secret issues and has authored and contributed to many publications (national and local) regarding the same. He also advises start-up and closely held businesses, as well as sports and fitness industry members.
Mr. Fuhs also works as a college and high school basketball analyst for various television outlets including ESPN, the Horizon League Network and the Michigan High School Athletics Association Network, calling upon his experience as a former college basketball player at the University of Detroit-Mercy.
In addition to this honor, Mr. Fuhs was recently named to Crain’s Detroit Business’ 2012 Class of “40 Under 40” and selected as a 2012 Business Litigation Top Lawyer by DBusiness Magazine. He also was named to the 2011 & 2012 Michigan Super Lawyers' Rising Star List.
Mr. Fuhs is a graduate of the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law (J.D., magna cum laude, 2006) and the University of Detroit Mercy (B.S., summa cum laude, 2003). He interned for Chief Justice Maura Corrigan of the Michigan Supreme Court President of the 2nd Year Class at UDM School of Law on Law Review a member of the Justice Frank Murphy Honor Society and a member of Beta Gamma Sigma and Beta Alpha Psi.
He also enjoyed many honors as an undergraduate including the following: Captain of 2002/2003 UDM Division 1 Men's Basketball Team the Wall Street Journal Award - Top Student in the UDM College of Business Administration the Financial Executives International Award - most outstanding undergraduate student in Accounting and Finance the Beta Alpha Psi Award - highest scholastic average in undergraduate program member of the All Horizon League Athletic Academic Team – (2002/2003) the President's and Horizon League Honor Roll all four years and the William Ebben Award for athletic and academic excellence. He was on the Dean's list all years attended at UDM and UDM School of Law, and received the Cavanaugh scholarship at UDM School of Law.
