Butzel Long attorney Les Glick speaks on ABA Panel on USMCA
Washington Shareholder and Co-Chair of the Butzel Long International Trade and Customs Specialty Team Les Glick was one of three speakers on a panel entitled “The United States Mexico Canada Agreement (USMCA) at Six Months Old” sponsored by the American Bar Association (ABA) International Trade Committee. The program, listed below is available online through the free link below to listen to the speakers and view the PowerPoint presentations. Les covered the new USMCA rules of origin particularly as to their application to the automotive industry; as well as such topics as the digital trade and intellectual property chapters. Les was the only speaker from the U.S. The other panelists were lawyers and government officials from Canada and Mexico. Les is the author of a recently published book, entitled “United States Mexico Canada Agreement (USMCA) -Legal and Business Considerations”.

The US Mexico Canada Agreement (USMCA) took effect July 1, 2020. After years of negotiation the USMCA replaced the 25 year old North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). After six months in effect, three experts one from Mexico, one from the US, and one from Canada will discuss what has occurred and what to expect in the future. Such important areas as rules of origin, digital trade, labor issues, agriculture and energy will be among the topics discussed.
