DETROIT, Mich. – Michigan’s recently enacted “right-to-work” laws will make it unlawful to require an employee to become a union member or to pay dues or fees as a condition of employment. However, what does this mean for employers moving forward?
Butzel Long labor and employment attorney John Hancock, Jr., will discuss Michigan’s right-to-work laws during a “Lunch and Launch Program” from Noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at the Macomb-OU INCubator at the Velocity Collaboration Center, located at 6633 Eighteen Mile Road in Sterling Heights. This briefing will review these new laws and how they may impact unions, non-union employers, and collective bargaining strategies. Discussion also will include potential union requests to extend current contracts before the law becomes effective, administration of dues check-offs, and potential legal challenges.
