Butzel Long attorney to receive Michigan Defense Trial Counsel’s Golden Gavel Award

BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. – Butzel Long attorney Joseph E. Richotte is the 2013 recipient of the Michigan Defense Trial Counsel’s (MDTC) Ninth Annual Young Lawyers Section Golden Gavel Award. Mr. Richotte will be honored during the Awards Banquet at the MDTC Annual Meeting and Conference June 21 to 22, 2013 at Crystal Mountain Resort.
The Michigan Defense Trial Counsel is an association of the leading lawyers in the State of Michigan dedicated to representing individuals and corporations in civil litigation. The Golden Gavel Award is presented to a defense attorney who has practiced no more than 10 years. Nominees are evaluated on their accomplishments in the following areas:
- Contributions to professionalism and courtesy in the practice of law that promotes the image and honorable representation of the legal profession
- Achievement in charitable endeavors, community involvement, or pro bono representation
- Advancement of “young attorneys” as evidenced in leadership and mentoring
- Demonstrates achievement within their area of practice as evidenced by their knowledge, skill and oral advocacy
Based in Butzel Long’s Bloomfield Hills office, Mr. Richotte practices in the areas of white collar criminal defense, SEC civil enforcement actions, corporate investigations, news media defense, and professional discipline matters for lawyers and judges. Before joining Butzel Long, Mr. Richotte interned for the Honorable Avern Cohn of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. He has also worked for the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Michigan in the National Security Unit and for the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office.
Mr. Richotte is admitted to practice in Michigan, the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, the American Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, the Lex Mundi Business Crimes Group, the Lex Mundi Media, Sports, and Entertainment Group, and the Media Law Resource Center. Mr. Richotte is also a member of the Order of the Coif and Phi Beta Kappa.
