Butzel Long attorneys featured at ICLE's 6th Annual Family Law Institute

DETROIT, Mich. – Butzel Long attorneys and shareholders Frederick G. Buesser, III, Edward D. Gold, and Clara DeMatteis Mager, were featured speakers recently during The Institute of Continuing Legal Education (ICLE) 6th Annual Family Law Institute seminar. ICLE's mission is to provide Michigan lawyers with accessible, high-quality, continuing legal education and resource materials that enable them to practice law more effectively.
Mr. Buesser has represented and counseled a wide range of clients in sophisticated family matters throughout Michigan for more than 30 years. He has extensive experience handling complex tax, business and valuation issues. He has authored numerous articles pertaining to valuation and tax issues, settlement structures, and trial and negotiating tactics, including the Property Settlement and Alimony chapter of Michigan Family Law published by the Institute of Continuing Legal Education in 1986. Mr. Buesser has lectured extensively.
He has served on the Council of the Family Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan, as a Trustee of Child and Family Services of Michigan, as a Grievance Panel Chairperson of the Michigan State Bar Grievance Commission, and is a Trustee of the Michigan Supreme Court Historical Society and a Fellow of the Michigan State Bar Foundation and the American Bar Foundation.
Mr. Buesser has been included in The Best Lawyers in America since 1986 and was named one of the ten best divorce lawyers in metropolitan Detroit by Detroit Monthly magazine. He is a Fellow of The American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and a member of the Editorial Board of the AAML Journal of Matrimonial Law.
Mr. Gold is an attorney with Butzel Long's Family Law Practice Group. He has handled high-end sophisticated matrimonial matters for more than 40 years. He has authored numerous articles on family law and is a contributing lecturer for the Institute of Continuing Legal Education, the State Bar Family Law Section Seminar Series, the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and the Michigan Trial Lawyers. He was an adjunct professor at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law where he taught Family Law.
Mr. Gold is a former chairperson of the Family Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan. He also received its Lifetime Achievement Award. He served as National Vice President of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and as President of the Michigan Chapter. He also is a member of the American College of Family Trial Lawyers and the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. He is an elected member of the Matrimonial Network, a group of the 30 finest matrimonial lawyers in the country. He served as President of the Southfield Bar Association and the Oakland County Bar Association. Mr. Gold has authored numerous articles pertaining to valuation and tax issues, settlement structures, and trial and negotiating tactics, including the Pre-Marital Agreement chapter of Michigan Family Law published by the Institute of Continuing Legal Education.

Ms. Mager is Practice Group Leader of the firm's Immigration Group. She focuses her practice on business and family immigration issues including all aspects of the international movement of personnel, inbound and outbound work-authorized nonimmigrant (temporary) and immigrant (permanent) status immigration consequences of mergers, acquisitions and corporate restructuring employment eligibility and employer sanctions and I-9 and LCA audits.
Ms. Mager is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, American Bar Association, Federal Bar Association (current co-chair person of the Immigration Committee and a previous member of the Leadership Council of the Immigration Committee), and State Bar of Michigan (Past Chairperson of the International Law Section and previously held positions of Chair-elect, Secretary, Treasurer, Council Member and Chairperson of the Immigration Committee).
