Butzel attorney Daniel J. Hatch named to Crain’s Grand Rapids Business 2023 Class of 40 under 40
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Butzel attorney and shareholder Daniel J. Hatch has been named to Crain’s Grand Rapids Business 2023 Class of 40 under 40, which recognizes 40 West Michigan business leaders for their accomplishments over the past year and their leadership in the community. The news appears in the October 16 edition. Crain’s Grand Rapids Business will celebrate honorees at a special event on October 18.
Hatch practices in the areas of construction law, business law, insurance recovery and advisory, and commercial litigation. He is experienced in civil litigation representing owners, general contractors, design professionals, subcontractors, and suppliers in various matters involving contract disputes, real property disputes, tort and professional liability claims, lien and bond claims, and collections in state and federal courts.
His construction practice includes experience in arbitration and litigation proceedings involving private, local, state, and federal projects including hospitals, professional sports stadiums, public high schools, college facilities, university dormitories and classroom buildings, airports, parking structures, military bases, bridges, water treatment facilities, water lift and pumping stations, sewage treatment plants, office tower complexes, mixed-use buildings, residential homes, office buildings, industrial manufacturing facilities, food processing and production facilities, restaurants, big box retail facilities, hotels, train stations, casinos, churches, adult congregate residential living and retirement facilities, condominiums, and others including work for various construction industry related trade associations.
Hatch has assisted clients in construction-related disputes involving issues such as contract scope, contract time of performance, delay, schedule compression and acceleration, warranty, indemnity, insurance procurement and coverage, site access, design specifications, design errors and omissions, Builders’ Trust Fund Acts, Prompt Pay Acts, MIOSHA citations, submittals and substitutions, change order and payment disputes, contract interpretation, default, wrongful termination, and termination for convenience claims.
He also specializes in litigation and appeals in state and federal courts on subjects including takings, due process, equal protection, free speech, ordinance validity, zoning, building codes, code enforcement, riparian rights, and Open Meetings Acts.
He has been named a Rising Star by Super Lawyers from 2019-present. Hatch is a member of the American Bar Association, State Bar of Michigan, State Bar of Michigan Character and Fitness District C Committee, Grand Rapids Bar Association, Construction Financial Management Association, American Subcontractors Association National Attorneys’ Council, and Associated Builders and Contractors.
Hatch is a graduate of Michigan State University College of Law (J.D., summa cum laude, 2014) where he served as an associate editor of the Michigan State Law Review. He earned a B.A., in Business, magna cum laude, from Grand Valley State University. He has also served as an adjunct professor at Grand Valley State University and Michigan State University College of Law.
