DETROIT, Mich. – Detroit is a leading hub of innovation for a wide range of industries. Butzel attorneys have played a key leadership role with clients turning to the firm for innovative legal counsel for the past 171 years. During the same time, Walsh College, a premier business and technology college for over 103 years, has proven to be an accelerator, think tank, and innovator for ideas preparing students for successful entrepreneurial careers. Together, Butzel and Walsh College have decided to partner to take entrepreneurship to the next level by offering counsel to startups and emerging businesses within the Walsh College Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

While Walsh College continues growing this venture capital initiative, Butzel hopes to offer its expertise in corporate law, intellectual property, and other legal matters to startups taking part in the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and the affiliated Walsh Ventures. Butzel has vast M&A and other corporate insight, and a deep bench of experienced legal professionals focused on entrepreneurial acceleration in the region.

Notably, Butzel and Walsh College will co-present their first Angel Pitch event in April featuring a keynote speaker and micro panel at the Detroit Athletic Club.

“Walsh College and Butzel are aligned well to support growing companies by providing the critical skills needed for entrepreneurs to succeed,” said Paul Mersino, President and CEO, Butzel. “Butzel has worked with many venture capital firms, startups, incubators, and accelerators over the years and looks forward to bringing those experiences to even more in the region.”

“Butzel is fully committed to our mission and has a reputation for excellence,” said Daniel Sem, Ph.D., Executive Director of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and President of Walsh Ventures. “Butzel has helped with patent work for our first AI startup, csiSIM, and will be a great partner as Walsh Ventures helps student, alumni and community businesses launch and grow.”
