Overview

It is no secret that wage and hour claims are on the rise—and that penalties courts are awarding in addition to unpaid wages, interest, and attorney fees—are also rising. State and federal wage and hour laws and regulations and local government regulations are also continually undergoing revision.

Butzel’s Wage and Hour Specialty Team provides employers with the tools necessary to comply with ever-changing wage and hour laws and regulations and with the insight to navigate interpretations of the Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA).

Our clients rely on this experienced group of attorneys for counsel and representation, document preparation, employee training, and more, on myriad wage and hour law issues. Examples of work we have performed for our clients includes drafting pay policies for state and federal compliance, auditing pay practices to ensure state and federal compliance, training managers on pay issues, counseling employers on day-to-day administration of payroll processing disputes, representing employers in state and federal litigation and in disputes with state and federal governments. The Wage and Hour Specialty Team also assists employers with the creation and administration of practices that comply with wage-hour and paid time off (PTO) requirements.

To assist employers of all sizes in achieving compliance with the Earned Sick Time Act (ESTA), we offer a comprehensive range of services. These include reviewing and updating employee handbooks, drafting clear and informative communications to explain ESTA and related policies to employees, and providing targeted training for human resource and management teams. Additionally, we offer ongoing support to address any questions that may arise and ensure clients are kept informed through continuous updates on future developments related to ESTA.

Butzel attorneys have served as a resource to clients, employers, and other lawyers while serving as presenters at seminars across the country on Fair Labor Standards (FLSA) compliance. Team members also frequently publish client alerts pertinent to this area of the law.
