DETROIT, Mich. –  In a tight labor market, more U.S. companies are trying to recover their job training expenses invested in an employee who leaves after completing a workplace training program. Training Repayment Agreement Provisions (TRAPs) are currently a controversial topic for some unions and the Fair Labor Standards Act as well as state laws.

Butzel labor and employment attorney Brett Miller will discuss this topic and more during a webinar from 1-2:30 p.m. (EST) on Wednesday, February 1, 2023. The webinar is titled, “Structuring Training Repayment Agreement Provisions – Overcoming Legal and Regulatory Challenges When Drafting Employee TRAPS and Mitigating Risks.” The webinar is presented by Strafford Publications, Inc.

The CLE webinar will guide employment counsel on best practices when structuring TRAPs within an onboarding agreement. The discussion will cover key issues relating to the enforceability of TRAPs, an update on recent case law, state and regulatory activity, and address overcoming legal challenges on restricting worker mobility and bargaining power.

Miller, based in Butzel’s Detroit office, is the chair of the firm’s Employment Practices Liability Insurance Sub-Practice. He focuses his practice on employment and labor law as well as fair housing litigation.
