For more than a decade, Blaine Veldhuis has guided employers through complex workplace challenges and litigation. Known for his strategic counsel, Blaine advises on employee relations, disciplinary matters, and compliance with federal and state employment laws. He also helps businesses craft policies that minimize legal risks and foster a compliant workplace.

Overview

Blaine focuses on defending employers against wage and hour, discrimination, sexual harassment, failure to accommodate, and whistleblower claims, as well as handling commercial and general employment litigation. He provides counsel on employee relations, disciplinary actions, and discharge matters, while also assisting in drafting employment policies. Additionally, he has extensive experience in defending complex Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) litigation, including single-plaintiff ERISA cases.

He has considerable experience representing defendants and respondents in response to administrative complaints and administrative and governmental investigations including US Department of Labor and Michigan Wage and Hour Division audits, and investigations conducted by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Michigan Department of Civil Rights, National Labor Relations Board, and the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.

Blaine Veldhuis is a Shareholder based in Butzel’s Troy office. Notably, he has been recognized by a well-respected legal publication over numerous years for his experience in labor and employment litigation and Employment Law. He has also been recognized for his experience in commercial litigation. Blaine earned his juris doctor, cum laude, from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law and his Bachelor of Arts in Criminology, magna cum laude, from Central Connecticut State University.
