Overview
Katya is an Associate attorney practicing in Butzel’s Detroit office. She earned her Dual Juris Doctor degree from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law and the University of Windsor. She received her Bachelor of Arts with an Honors Specialization in International Relations from the University of Western Ontario.
While in law school, Katya served as an Executive Director of Detroit Mercy’s Moot Court Board of Advocates, where she organized and competed in various moot competitions. Her contributions to the Board led her to being inducted into the Order of the Barristers. She also spent a summer working as a Legal Intern at Haguruka, a women’s Legal Aid Clinic in Kigali, Rwanda, where she drafted reports on projects undertaken by the organization to mitigate women’s rights issues and assisted with mobile legal aid clinics. In her final semester of law school, Katya externed at the Eastern District of Michigan for the Honorable Linda V. Parker. After graduation, Katya spent an additional six months serving as a Judicial Intern in Judge Parker’s chambers, before beginning her role as a Judicial Law Clerk for the Honorable Maria Antongiorgi-Jordan in the District of Puerto Rico. She served for a term of 18 months in Judge Antongiorgi’s chambers, where she worked on a wide variety of cases within the civil litigation sphere. These experiences have provided her with a unique understanding of the judicial decision-making process.
