Maxwell G. Shuart

In addition to supporting clients in Corporate Law matters, clients also seek Max’s experience in areas including real estate and bankruptcy and restructuring. He has wide-ranging experience representing private equity firms, family offices, strategic sector clients, and individual clients in buy- and sell-side mergers and acquisitions across industries such as manufacturing, automotive, software, information technology, and health care.

Max also has experience with corporate formation and governance, series fundraising, raising capital and issuing debt, and drafting operating and shareholder agreements, leases, and employment agreements. He assists clients with regulatory filings, insurance matters, and credit agreements. His experience includes drafting and negotiating purchase agreements, customer and supplier contracts, commercial leases, and ancillary documents. Max also has considerable experience representing clients in bankruptcy matters and the restructuring and liquidation of distressed companies.

Maxwell Shuart is an Associate practicing in Butzel’s Detroit office. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, Business Law and Young Lawyers Sections. He received his juris doctor, cum laude, from Wayne State University Law School, where he was a member of the Wayne Law Review and participated in Moot Court, and his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. During law school, Max served as a law clerk to the Subcommittee on Oversight for the United States House of Representatives Ways and Means Committee in Washington, D.C., the nation’s chief tax-writing committee.

An avid hockey fan, Max was a member of the University of Michigan Varsity Ice Hockey Team and played a season of professional hockey for Åmåls SK in Sweden. He stays involved with the University of Michigan ice hockey program as a fill-in radio commentator for hockey games.
