Overview
Construction companies and contractors seek Michael Decker’s counsel and representation on all phases of public and private projects—from inception to completion. Mr. Decker has substantial experience drafting and negotiating contracts, subcontracts, and other agreements, and prosecuting and defending performance, payment, and delay-related claims on behalf of construction companies, contractors, owners, and sureties. He also has experience prosecuting and defending claims and violations concerning the MISS DIG Underground Facility Damage Prevention and Safety Act and has accordingly prosecuted and defended claims before state and federal courts, state and public agencies, and arbitration and mediation panels.
Mr. Decker also has considerable experience assisting owners and contractors with residential construction-related matters including drafting and negotiating residential construction contracts, subcontracts, and other agreements, and with resolving performance and payment-related issues. When litigation is unavoidable, Mr. Decker tenaciously prosecutes and defends claims arising from such issues.
Pertinent to his business and business litigation practice, Mr. Decker represents and counsels businesses and business professionals with day-to-day issues such as contract disputes and non-compete and trade secret matters.
Michael Decker is a Shareholder practicing in Butzel’s Troy office. He is a Co-Chair of the firm’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice Department.
Mr. Decker is a member of several bar associations, including the State Bar of Michigan and the State Bar of Florida. He is admitted to practice in various courts in both states.
Michael Decker has been recognized by numerous prestigious legal publications in the areas of Business Litigation, Construction Litigation, and Construction Law. He received his juris doctor from Wayne State University Law School and his Bachelor of Science from Central Michigan University. During law school, he served as an associate editor of The Journal of Law in Society.
